Mt. Kurodake Hiking Trail

This hiking course takes you up to Mt. Kurodake from the Kojiri Waters Gate and down to the shore of Lake Ashinoko via a ridge path on the outer crater rim of Hakone overlooking Suruga Bay. You can enjoy the view of the summit and the natural surroundings of Lake Ashi.
Along the route is the Fukara water gate. The Fukara water gate is a special engineering accomplishment completed 300 years ago to bring water to Fukara Village (now Susono City, Shizuoka Prefecture). It was difficult work to dig through the hard bedrock of the Hakone mountains by hand, but there was only an error of 1 meter at the meeting point where the tunnels from both sides connected.
