Nagao Pass

The Nagao Pass is a mountain pass between Hakone and Gotemba City, Shizuoka Prefecture with views of Mt. Fuji and Lake Ashi. It is located on the north western section of the Hakone Outer Rim. The elevation is 911m. The Hakone Skyline, which branches off from the Shizuoka side of the tunnel, continues along the outer rim of the mountain to the south. There is a large open space (parking lot) in front of the entrance of the Hakone Skyline from where you can walk up to the trail on the outer rim of the mountain. From this trailhead Mt. Marudake is 35min to the north and Kojiri Pass is 1.5 hours to the south. Looking towards Hakone from the pass you can see the central mountains of Hakone and a good view of the 3000 year old ancient lava flow from Mt. Kamiyama that helped create Lake Ashi.
