Ashinoko Skyline is a winding toll road that runs along the border between Kanagawa and Shizuoka prefectures on the west side of Hakone. The road follows the western ridge of the Hakone mountains with beautiful views. The view from Hakone Pass of Mt. Fuji and Lake Ashi from Hakone Pass is a draw to many motorists and is a spectacular view that only the Ashinoko Skyline can offer. Another interesting draw is the “Melody Road” which plays music in your car through the vibrations created by your tires on the road.
The Ashinoko Skyline is a tourist toll road with a total length of 10.7 km (9.0 km for the general section and 1.7 km for the special section), consisting of two sections: the general section from Hakone Pass to Kojiri Pass along the ridge line on the western shore of Lake Ashino, and the special section from Kojiri Pass to Kojiri watergates on the northern shore of Lake Ashi. The Rest House Fuji View is located at the southern end of the Ashinoko Skyline and offers food and activities to visitors. This is a toll road costing ¥800 for normal sized cars.
