The blooming of the hydrangea is closely connected with our images of spring in Japan. There are many places to view the various types of hydrangea in Hakone. From mid-June, for one month the Hakone Tozan Railway runs a special “Hydrangea Train” that takes guests through the thousands of hydrangea plants along the tracks in the evening. The flowers are lit up and it is a unique event to enjoy. The Sengokuhara Venetian Glass Museum has a wonderful and eclectic collection of the flowers spread throughout the property.
