One of the biggest seasonal attractions for Hakone is the color changing of the leaves in fall. The Hakone mountains are painted shades of reds, oranges, and even yellow as the temperature gets colder and the trees prepare for winter. These colors make a wonderful backdrop to hiking, walking along the Hayakawa river, or enjoying one of the many Japanese gardens in Hakone. Onshi Park on the shores of Lake Ashi, Mt. Kintoki, and a ride on the Hakone Tozan Railway are particularly enjoyable this time of year.
