The Hakone Geomuseum is a place where you can learn about the history and wonder of the Hakone volcanoes and geologic history of the area. The Geomuseum is located in Owakudani near the steaming thermal vents.
The term “Geopark” is a combination of the words “Geo” and “Park,” meaning “park of the earth,” and refers to a place where people can learn about and enjoy the earth (geo) in its entirety.The Geomuseum promotes the understanding of this distinctive place on earth and our relationship with it. There are a variety of interactive displays, exhibitions, and videos centered around different themes. The GEO hall at the center of the museum displays information on the history of Owakudani, information on the threats and hazards of volcanoes, hot springs, and the geological history of the Hakone volcanoes. The large screen “Geo-Vision” introduces the scenic spots of Hakone and explains the history of various parts of Owakudani, Lake Ashi, Sengokuhara, Mt. Kanmuri and Mt. Kamiyama.
