The Hakone Visitor Center Bird Forest

Update:2021.03.01

The Bird Forest is a place to observe the birds of Hakone in their natural environment and is about a 5-6 minute walk away from the Hakone Visitor Center.

The Bird Forest can be reached by crossing the prefectural road in front of the Hakone Visitor Center and heading north along the well marked path.

The main facilities include a 550-meter observation path, a log cabin-type observation house, and a pond. There are many trees with berries that provide food for wild birds, such as the mountain ash, creating a comfortable environment for wild birds.

Birdsong can be heard in the quiet forest, and the main birds that can be observed here throughout the year are the white-fronted woodpecker, mallard, great spotted woodpecker, woodpecker, narcissus, jay, and pheasant.

In the summer, you can see the yellow warbler, yellow-bellied flycatcher, Japanese nightingale, oriental blue robin, and black-naped thrush.

In the winter, you can see thrushes, white-throated flycatchers, red-flanked bluebirds, and red-faced buntings. This is a place where you can see a variety of wild birds throughout the four seasons.
