Ashinoko Loop Hiking Trail

Update:2021.02.10

*West side trail only

This is a course that circles Lake Ashi. You will walk the quiet forests of the east and west shore trails, enjoy a stroll along the lakeside, and to the south side you can see the bustling tourist area of Moto-Hakone. Hakone shrine, Onshi Park, and shops are located around Moto-Hakone. The north and west have many interesting attractions; Kuzuryu Shrine, the Hakone Visitor Center, and Hakone Machi Port. Lake Ashinoko is at an altitude of about 700 meters. The temperature is low in summer and warm in winter so large beech trees, oal, and Akagashi trees grow here. You can also enjoy mountain ash, seasonal flowers and Japanese azalea. From May to July, you can listen to the chirping of orioles, kibitaki, black-necked thrushes, green woodpeckers, corvids, siskins, and sunbirds.

You can walk the entire route or choose to take the sightseeing ship at the halfway point back to your starting location. There are not many buses running between the ends of Lake Ashi.
