From Tokyo

Train

The fastest way to reach Hakone is by Tokaido Shinkansen from the Tokyo area to Odawara Station. From Odawara Station you can transfer to the Odakyu line and the whole trip should take about an hour. The JR Tokaido line will also bring you to Odawara Station from the Tokyo area in about 1.5 hours. The Odakyu line has direct trains to Hakone Yumoto Station from Shinjuku Station in Tokyo. This route will take about 2 hours, but there is a special train called the “Romance Car” that runs often during the day. There is an additional fee to reserve your spot on the more spacious, faster (1.5 hours), and comfortable Romance Car from Shinjuku.

 

Car

The most direct route to Hakone from the Tokyo area by car is on the Tomei Expressway. From the Tomei Expressway you can enter Hakone from the most popular entry point of Yumoto by merging onto the Odawara Atsugi Road in the Atsugi area (80min). You can also enter Hakone from Sengokuhara on the north side by exiting the Tomei Expressway at Gotemba IC. The visitor center is about 25 minutes from the Gotemba IC.

 

Bus

The Express Highway Bus is a convenient and easy way to reach the Hakone area.
