Mt. Futago is a 1,099-meter-high dormant volcano located in the center of Hakone.
It is located on the southeast side of the Hakone volcano caldera and is a lava dome formed by an eruption about 5,000 years ago. It is one of the central crater mountains together with Mt. Komagatake, Mt. Kamiyama, and Mt. Daigatake. “Futago” means twin in Japanese and when viewed from afar the two peaks of Mt. Futago are lined up like twins at 1,099m on the north side and 1,065m on the south side.
Currently, the mountain is closed to the public for nature conservation.
