The Owakudani Volcanic Steam Zone (approximately 700 m around from the Owakudani Park), which has been off-limits since May 2015, can now be enjoyed for approximately 40 minutes by advance reservation only from March 28, 2022.
The tour will be held four times a day (from 10:00, 11:30, 13:00, and 14:30), each time with a maximum of 30 people (*The tour will be canceled depending on weather conditions and volcanic conditions).
On the day of the tour, registration will be held at the Owakudani Information Center located at the entrance to the Owakudani Geomuseum (Owakudani Kurotamagokan 1F, ropeway station side). Please assemble 20 minutes before the start time and pay 500 yen per person on the day (cash is not accepted *only cashless payment such as credit cards and transportation system electronic money is accepted) as a cooperation fee for safety measures. Afterwards, please reassemble at the entrance of the Nature Study Path, put on your helmet, and follow the instructions of the two guides who will lead you on your group tour.
The Owakudani area is one of the most popular destinations in the Fuji Hakone Izu Quasi National Park. In the area you can experience the wonders of the geological history and characteristics of the area. Visitors can enjoy views of Mt. Fuji, the steaming vents, and the famous black eggs, which get their color from being boiled in the high sulfer waters of Owakudani. Owakudani can be accessed by ropeway from Soun Station near Gora, Togendai Station on the shores of Lake Ashi, or by bus and personal car.
